Updates coming soon!

In the meantime, be sure to subscribe to Lavender Letters so we can stay in touch!

Hi, I’m Kelly Ehrman! I know first-hand what a magical experience Waldorf-inspired homeschooling can be for the whole family. But I see too many parents struggling with confusion and pulling it all together.

I’m on a mission to create a curriculum that captures all the beauty, imagination, and flexibility of the Waldorf method without adding to your overwhelm. The Lavender’s Blue Curriculum is as detailed, organized, and easy to follow as it is magical!

Postcards from Maternity Leave

May 2023

Dear friend,

Life with little ones moves so fast and so slow at the very same time!

When Leta and Eleanor came along, I needed to take a breather from Lavender’s Blue and focus on our family. It’s hard to believe we are almost out of the baby phase again (I try not to think about it or I’ll cry!)...but Leta turns 3 soon and Ellie is just about 18 months.

And I miss my Lavender’s Blue crew and the work I do here in the world of curriculum planning and homeschool supporting. I miss working, so I’m inching my way back to it.

I started Lavender’s Blue in 2013 when I was a single mama homeschooling Aiya and Sierra. That summer I published Kindergarten and got ready to teach first grade for the first time. Some of you have been here for all of these years!

I’ll pop in again soon with some updates on what’s coming up for Lavender’s Blue. But first, here are a few postcards from maternity leave!

I hope you are well, and enjoying life as it comes!

From 2021…

I live in gorgeous small-town New Hampshire with my husband Brooks and daughters Aiya, Sierra, baby Leta, and another one on the way.

I’m currently on maternity leave with Leta and baby girl #4 (due November 2021)! Right now I’m a full-time homeschooling mama and Lavender’s Blue newsletters and new curriculum blocks are on pause. But I’m also putting every spare minute into my reading, lesson planning, and writing for sixth grade...Roman history, Africa, weather and biomes, and so much more, oh my! So there is more Lavender’s Blue curriculum to come.

Meanwhile Flora Schubert, our lovely Community Manager is holding the space for our Lavender’s Blue Community in a way that nobody else could. I’m so grateful to Flora for taking amazing care of our readers, customers, and community while I’m focused on raising my babies.

This coming school year (2021-22) Sierra is homeschooling 6th grade and we’ll have two babies at home with us. Aiya is starting high school at the wonderful school where my husband teaches, and after a very quiet covid-homeschool-eighth-grade, our teenager is so ready to spread her wings. We’re all excited for her! My stepson will be a senior in high school, another big milestone for us. So this year we will be parenting our five kiddos from the newborn stage up through applying to college. It’s a trip!

Thanks for all the love and support, Lavender’s Blue Mamas!

xo, Kelly

From 2017 …

We spend our mornings learning fascinating things in engaging and creative ways, exploring the woods, and occasionally-ish throwing our plan out the window to read just a few more chapters out loud because read aloud is our favorite thing. But when people ask my girls their favorite subject, they both say “math” and I have to admit, that makes me proud.

Most afternoons (and sometimes late nights and weekends too), mama gets to work!  And I’m incredibly fortunate to have the best job in the world. It is literally a dream come true to be able to homeschool my girls, support my family by putting my unique blend of creativity-plus-obsession-with-detail to work, and share the joy of Waldorf-inspired homeschooling with you.

And how did I get here?

I graduated from Oberlin College with a B.A. with High Honors in Psychology and a research job in developmental neuropsychology. I enjoyed research, assessment, and data, but I found that I loved working directly with children (both with special needs and without) and their parents the most.

I eventually became a Head Teacher at a funky and fantastic community school in Los Angeles. My mixed-age kindergarten class spent our entire days in an outdoor classroom that inspired creativity and open-ended play. This was a school where children were respected as whole people, on a not-to-be-rushed developmental journey, and connection was paramount.  I for sure learned more from my kiddos, their parents, and my co-teachers than I ever taught any of them.

I decided to stay home for a semester when Aiya was born in 2007….but in truth, I never looked back. I discovered Waldorf as a new mama, and as an avid reader and researcher, dove right in!  When Aiya reached preschool age and I couldn’t find the homeschool resource of my dreams, I started creating it from scratch….and Lavender’s Blue was born.

Here’s what I know for sure. Your children matter to the future of our planet, and parenting is your most important job.

In a world that is increasingly disconnected, rushed, overstimulated, and out of sync with the needs of children, homeschooling provides a powerful balance point.

Homeschooling allows you to slow down, put family and connection first, and give your child the environment, experiences, and education he needs to thrive.

At Lavender’s Blue, I teach about holistic homeschooling.  Holistic homeschooling is creative, engaging, and respectful of the child as a whole, developing person.  It’s also highly effective - because when we engage our children head, heart, and hands, lessons are memorable and children love to learn.

Homeschooling isn’t for everyone, of course!  But once you decide to jump in with both feet, let’s make this a joyful experience for your entire family.

Because you can jump into homeschooling with enthusiasm and fall in love with Waldorf methods, but pretty soon find yourself confused and not sure where to start.

Waldorf-inspired homeschoolers often feel overwhelmed at first….and even worse, burned out in the long run.

That’s normal.  But it’s not inevitable!

Choosing the right curriculum will free up your time, energy, and worry so you can do your most important homeschooling job - focusing on your family.

And that, my dear, is why I created Lavender’s Blue.
